Since we started hosting sim races for friends nearly two years ago, we’ve changed a lot. With these changes, costs have increased as we’ve moved from an old PC in our basement to dedicated hosting and as our live stream has become viewing for friends and family and the stuff of post-race debate among the participants.
While we have no intent of making money on this, we’re not keen on being out of pocket either so we are hoping everyone will chip-in a small amount to help. As such, we’re asking everyone to make a small, annual contribution, starting September 1, 2022, for those who want to participate in our races.
Newcomers will get a grace period to try 3 rounds with us before being expected to commit and support the cause. Contributing your share part way through the year is not lost $ given how surpluses will be handled (see below).
For 2023-24, each existing member will renew at $2 CAD. New members will be asked to contribute $8 CAD, an amount that has not changed since we started this. That amount provides access to all BGR races until August 31 of the next year. Accounting will be transparent to all via a Google sheets file.
Where revenue for a given year exceeds costs for that year by more than 50% of costs, the following will happen: The portion of the surplus that exceeds 50% of costs will be allocated like so: credit that can be used against the next year’s contribution or cashed out, less transaction costs. Where revenues exceed costs by a smaller margin, that sum will be used against costs for the coming year. Where revenues are less than costs, participants will be asked to voluntarily contribute to making up the difference.
