Registration is closed and the action will get underway at 7PM on April 25. You can watch it live on YouTube, here.
After a great turn-out for our Silverstone race, we’re mixing up the formula some more…
Mutli-Class Racing with a Twist v2.0
We will once again have two distinct classes, but instead of the massive speed differential we saw at Road Atlanta and Silverstone, this time, the classes will be much closer in performance:
- our fastest competitors will run their choice of vehicle from the impressive collection of GT4 cars from Guerrilla Mods without any ballast or power restriction; and,
- the mortals amongst us will run Kunos GT3 cars with ballast or restriction to reduce field spread.
This mix, we hope will create some interesting dynamics and perhaps see the faster drivers have to mix it up with their slower counter-parts, but in lesser machinery. The overall win might matter for this one.
The Track
As for the track, we’ll be using the spectacular rendering of Kyalami produced by Prototype_, available on RaceDepartment. This classic track has featured in F1 and International Sportscar over the cours of its history and this version of it truly does it justice.
Environmental Conditions
Unlike our previous races, where we compressed 24 hours into 90 minutes, this time, we’ll be compressing approximately 14 hours into the same 90 minutes. That’s more or less sunrise to sunset on the longest day of 2019 in South Africa: 2019. Yes, we have a time machine.
Everything else you need to know, including how to secure one of our limited grid slots is below. Hope to see you all there!
How to Register
Enter name, Steam GUID, car preference, etc in this sheet. Be sure to choose a livery that has not already been claimed.
If we don’t have all of your info by April 23 at 9:00PM Ottawa time, you run the risk of :
- not being able to participate;
- not having your livery loaded to the live stream;
- being assigned a random car in a random class; and,
- facing unreasonable BoP.
Schedule & Format
All times are Ottawa time.
Practice:
A practice server will run from the morning of April 20 to allow for practice and testing fuel levels etc.
Practice sessions will be 90 min, like the race, and pass through the same time transition. Please report your typical “race-pace” lap time using your selected car from these practice sessions in the registration sheet (above). Please no sand-bagging. Set-ups won’t be locked yet, but don’t bother tweaking as your quali and race day set-up will be locked (see below)
On April 24 (time TBD), the practice server will restart with BoP and locked set-ups.
Qualifying:
April 25@ 7PM – 20 min
The server will be running a practice session in advance of qualifying.
Race:
April 25 @ 7:20PM – 90 min, featuring:
- mandatory pit-stop (between minute 1 and minute 89)
- set-ups:
- for GT4 cars: other than fuel loads, and tire pressures, all lockable set-up parameters will be fixed
- for GT3 cars: other than fuel loads, and tire compounds, all lockable set-up parameters will be fixed
- 50% damage
- 200% fuel consumption
- 200% tire wear
- single race format
- lighting conditions will progress at accelerated rate (10x) during the 90 min race so that it seems like we passed through the roughly 14 hours between sunrise and sunset.
Penalties:
- server will enforce track limits – 3 wheels allowed out
- jump start: drive-through penalty
Headlights:
Be sure to bind a button on your controller/keyboard to enable your headlights in case the auto function doesn’t work. Even if you can see well enough without headlights, other drivers may not be able to see you if you’re running without lights so you’ll need to be able to turn them on.
Game Content & Apps:
- Track: Kyalami v0.9
- Cars:
- Guerilla Mods GT4 Pack linked to on our Content Page
- Kunos GT3 Cars (Standard and Kunos DLC)
- Sol: You need this to experience time progression. (follow the INSTALL guide completely, including the section on configuring for lower-performing systems).
- If you’re not able to run Sol due to PC limitations, please let us know in the registration process.
- CrewChief: Helps to keep you from driving into others and gives valuable race/car data through your headphones. Download here.
- Helicorsa: Small radar app that helps reduce the risk of collisions inherent with the limited field of view available when simming.
- Custom Skins/Liveries: We encourage you to run a custom livery (car skin)! See this tutorial using free software and let your creativity flow. The registration form provides a link to our standard number plate template and font, should you wish to use it, as well as a note on how to provide us with your custom livers. Please install others’ liveries so that you’re not racing a bunch of white cars. We need a link to your full livery folder emailed to us at battlegoat@battlegoatracing.com by the registration deadline of April 23 at 9:00PM Ottawa time.
Rules of Engagement:
We’re about fun ALWAYS trumping purity of competition. So, if you prefer a dominating win over lots side-by-side action where everyone leaves their fellow drivers enough room and everyone does their best to avoid ruining another driver’s race, our events might not be for you. With that in mind:
- normal BGR standards apply (no brake-checks; no running someone out of track even if they are on the outside of the exit of the corner, or if you’re ahead; no moving in the braking zone; respect blue flags, etc.)
- if you punt someone and its your fault, wait for them to recover and let them in front of you
- must be on Discord with push to talk enabled
- refrain from whining, ranting, debating, losing your cool, or generally being a downer on track or on discord
The server password will be distributed verbally on race day. You’ll need to connect to our Discord (free app) Race Chat channel to get it and you’ll need to remain connected throughout the event. Participants are asked to minimize banter during the race so that others can concentrate.
