Feb 23: Long-Format GT3 Race

After much conversation and a user survey, we’re doing another special sim racing event in the form of our longest race to date: 90 minutes!

Long races are best with a large field of cars, so we’re hoping you’ll consider joining-in, even if you haven’t done so far this winter. There are competitors at all levels of ability from the uber-fast to the getting-up-to-speed so there will always be someone with whom you can battle. Of course, we’ll be using ballast and power restrictions on the fastest participants to help minimize the speed disparity, too.

If you have friends who would be interested in joining and fit in (see Rules of Engagement below), feel free to invite them.

If you or someone you know is interested in streaming the race, please contact me at battlegoat@battlegoatracing.com. The ability to provide intelligent commentary would be a massive bonus.

Everything else you need to know, including how to secure your grid slot is below. Hope to see you all there!

How to Register

Enter name, Steam GUID, car preference, etc in this sheet. Be sure to choose a livery that has not already been claimed.

If we don’t have your registration info by Feb 23 at 8:00AM, you run the risk of not being able to participate, or having deal with a random car.

Schedule & Format

Practice:

A practice server will run from Feb 15 to Feb 21 to allow for practice and testing fuel levels etc. Practice sessions will be 90 min, like the race, and pass through the same time transition. Please report your lap time from these practice sessions in the registration sheet (above). Please no sand-bagging.

Qualifying:

Feb 23 @ 1PM EST – 20 min

Race:

Feb 23 @ 1:20PM EST – 90 min, featuring:

  • mandatory pit-stop between minute 10 and minute 80
  • locked setups
  • 50% damage
  • 200% fuel consumption
  • 200% tire wear
  • single race format
  • lighting conditions will progress at accelerated rate (16x) during the 90 min race so that it seems like we passed through a full 24 hours (see Game Content & Apps Below)

Penalties:

  • server will enforce track limits – 3 wheels allowed out
  • jump start: drive-through penalty
  • no teleporting to pits — doing so will likely result in a disqualification

Headlights:

Be sure to bind a button on your controller/keyboard to enable your headlights in case the auto function doesn’t work. Even if you can see well enough without headlights, other drivers may not be able to see you if you’re running without lights so you’ll need to be able to turn them on.

Game Content & Apps:

  • Track: Watkins Glen v1.0
  • Cars: All AC supplied GT3 Cars, including DLC content
  • Sol: You need this to experience time progression. 1.4 or newer (follow the INSTALL guide completely, including the section on configuring for lower-performing systems).
    • If you’re not able to run Sol due to PC limitations, please indicate in registration.
    • If you’re on triples or a wide-screen see this solution if 1.4.2 is having lights turn on and off based on your proximity.
  • CrewChief: Helps to keep you from driving into others and gives valuable race/car data through your headphones. Download here.
  • Helicorsa: Small radar app that helps mitigate collision risk inherent in the limited field of view available when simming.
  • Custom Skins: If you’d like to run a non-standard car skin, please provide a download link in the registration form.

Rules of Engagement:

We’re about fun ALWAYS trumping purity of competition. So, if you prefer a dominating win over lots side-by-side action where everyone leaves their fellow drivers enough room and everyone does their best to avoid ruining another driver’s race, our events might not be for you. With that in mind:

  • normal BGR standards apply (no brake-checks; no running someone out of track even if they are on the outside of the exit of the corner, or if you’re ahead; no moving in the braking zone; respect blue flags, etc.)
  • if you punt someone and its your fault, wait for them to recover and let them in front of you
  • must be on Discord with push to talk enabled
  • refrain from whining, ranting, debating, losing your cool, or generally being a downer on track or on discord

The server password will be distributed verbally on race day. You’ll need to connect to our Discord (free app) Race Chat channel to get it and you’ll need to remain connected throughout the event.
