March 29: Long-Format Race

Everyone enjoyed our last long format race so much that we’re doing a second one on March 29!

Long races are best with a large field of cars, so we’re hoping you’ll consider joining-in the action, even if this would be your first race with us . There are competitors at all levels of ability from the uber-fast to the getting-up-to-speed so there will always be someone with whom you can battle.

Mutli-Class Racing with a Twist

For this round, we’re using two distinct classes. The first class will be driving Kunos LMP1 Prototypes. Those using those cars will face absolutely no ballast or power restriction. As such, we expect the faster competitors to use these cars. For example, the BGR regulars who normally run with ballast would run these cars.

The second class will feature all available Kunos GT3 cars. This class, which would be ideal for the mortals among us, could have ballast/restriction applied to reduce field spread.

If you have friends who would be interested in joining and fit in (see Rules of Engagement below), feel free to invite them.

Everything else you need to know, including how to secure one of our limited grid slots is below. Hope to see you all there!

How to Register

Enter name, Steam GUID, car preference, etc in this sheet. Be sure to choose a livery that has not already been claimed.

If we don’t have all of your info by March 26 at 9:00PM Ottawa time, you run the risk of :

  • not being able to participate;
  • not having your livery loaded to the live stream;
  • being assigned a random car in a random class; and,
  • facing unreasonable BoP.

Schedule & Format

All times are Ottawa time.

Practice:

A practice server will run from March 22 to March 26 to allow for practice and testing fuel levels etc. Practice sessions will be 90 min, like the race, and pass through the same time transition. Please report your typical “race-pace” lap time from these practice sessions in the registration sheet (above). Please no sand-bagging.

On March 27, the practice server will start again with registration data loaded (drivers will be linked to their cars, liveries, ballast, etc.). This configuration will run from March 27 to 28 to allow everyone to get used to race conditions.

Qualifying:

March 29 @ 1PM – 20 min

The server will start-up in advance of qualifying to provide some warm-up.

Race:

March 29 @ 1:20PM – 90 min, featuring:

  • mandatory pit-stop (between minute 1 and minute 89)
  • set-ups: other than fuel loads, and tire compounds, all lockable set-up parameters will be fixed
  • 50% damage
  • 200% fuel consumption
  • 200% tire wear
  • single race format
  • lighting conditions will progress at accelerated rate (16x) during the 90 min race so that it seems like we passed through a full 24 hours (see Game Content & Apps Below)

Penalties:

  • server will enforce track limits – 3 wheels allowed out
  • jump start: drive-through penalty

Headlights:

Be sure to bind a button on your controller/keyboard to enable your headlights in case the auto function doesn’t work. Even if you can see well enough without headlights, other drivers may not be able to see you if you’re running without lights so you’ll need to be able to turn them on.

Game Content & Apps:

  • TrackRoad Atlanta v1.3
  • Cars:
    • Kunos LMP1 Hybrid Protoypes (Standard and Kunos DLC)
    • Kunos GT3 Cars (Standard and Kunos DLC)
  • Sol: You need this to experience time progression. 1.4 or newer (follow the INSTALL guide completely, including the section on configuring for lower-performing systems).
    • If you’re not able to run Sol due to PC limitations, please let us know in the registration process.
    • If you’re on triples or a wide-screen see this solution if 1.4.2 is having lights turn on and off based on your proximity. Newer versions might also have resolved this problem.
  • CrewChief: Helps to keep you from driving into others and gives valuable race/car data through your headphones. Download here.
  • Helicorsa: Small radar app that helps reduce the risk of collisions inherent with the limited field of view available when simming.
  • Custom Skins/Liveries: We encourage you to run a custom livery (car skin)! See this tutorial using free software and let your creativity flow. The registration form provides a link to our standard number plate template and font, should you wish to use it, as well as a spot to provide a link to your custom livery/skin. Please install others’ liveries so that you’re not racing a bunch of white cars.

Rules of Engagement:

We’re about fun ALWAYS trumping purity of competition. So, if you prefer a dominating win over lots side-by-side action where everyone leaves their fellow drivers enough room and everyone does their best to avoid ruining another driver’s race, our events might not be for you. With that in mind:

  • normal BGR standards apply (no brake-checks; no running someone out of track even if they are on the outside of the exit of the corner, or if you’re ahead; no moving in the braking zone; respect blue flags, etc.)
  • if you punt someone and its your fault, wait for them to recover and let them in front of you
  • must be on Discord with push to talk enabled
  • refrain from whining, ranting, debating, losing your cool, or generally being a downer on track or on discord

The server password will be distributed verbally on race day. You’ll need to connect to our Discord (free app) Race Chat channel to get it and you’ll need to remain connected throughout the event. Participants are asked to minimize banter during the race so that others can concentrate.

If you or someone you know is interested in streaming the race, please contact me at battlegoat@battlegoatracing.com. The ability to provide intelligent commentary would be a massive bonus.
