Day 7 Report

After the heat of Day 6, we decided to take it a little easier today and had a slower morning, deciding we would simplify our route to Calgary if timing required it.

We once again saw weird temperature fluctuations as we travelled from Brooks to Drumheller. The car’s external temperature indication moved as much as 3 degrees in just a few minutes and we were surprised to see that despite the visual similarities between the formations in Drumheller and those at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Drumheller was cooler than the surround terrain.

On the way there, we saw some excess gas being burnt off in the distance and some more picturesque Canola (we think) fields.

In Drumheller, we made quick stop at the tourist info centre and took some fun photos with the gigantic dinosaurus figures there.

We then hit the Dinosaur Trail, a route that takes you to Horse Thief Canyon before coming back towards Drumheller on the other side of the river. The drive was pretty and the canyon was picturesque, featuring some local inhabitants.

Crossing the river was done by way of this winch-power ferry service that cost zero dollars. The short ride was a nice opportunity to meet our fellow passengers and have a chat with our friendly operators.

The ferry had caused a bit of delay, we short-cut our trip a bit and headed straight for Calgary right after the twisty bit of the trail that ran along the river. After all, we had tour tickets booked!

The tour was OK, but a combination of factors would prevent us from raving about it like we did our experience in Winnipeg. Still, it was cool to see nearly all of the City, including the winter olympics facilities.

We ended the evening with an outing to Vintage Chophouse and Tavern for some absolutely delicious steaks. T had tenderloin and I had rib. Definitely the best meal of the trip to date.

We’re now at our AirBNB, doing laundry and trying to mellow out for bed. Tomorrow, we’re pacing ourselves as we’ve been told to expect craziness in our target destination: Banff Lake Louise on a holiday weekend. Here’s the view from our 25th floor balcony (#dslr).

Thanks to everyone following us and sharing their thoughts! Good night!
